Your Mission

POSITION SUMMARY

The Design Engineer performs a wide variety of duties in designing and drafting mechanical and electrical components and cable assemblies. Prepares technical, commercial, manufacturing documents by following the product development process. Reviews and confirms the customer requirements within the due dates. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Follow the process of product development : work from engineering data, drawings, specifications, and other related data to make new designs or modify existing designs of mechanical and electrical components

  • Utilize CAD software (Solidworks Preferred) 

  • Make engineering calculations in the design process 

  • Prepare conceptual layouts, assembly, and detail drawings 

  • Adapt existing solutions or propose new solutions for new requirements in simple or intermediates projects 

  • Make appropriate changes in design, sequence of assembly and/or processes

  • Design procedures for the manufacture, repair or modification of equipment 

  • Develop products in production to match requirements (cost reduction, obsolescence, supplier or customer demand)

  • Evaluate new processes for production increase, quality improvement and cost reduction

  • Work with quality and sales departments to ensure accurate pricing and quality standards 

  • Evaluate customer complaints and concerns 

  • Generate department documents such as engineering standards, working aids, guides, data files and reports

  • Establish thorough engineering documentation for production to include CAD generated parts list, component and assembly drawings and bills of materials 

  • Ensure all documentation and data are updated in the PLM

  • Provide technical support for the Production Department by investigating technical problems, troubleshooting complex mechanical problems, and providing drawings or technical specifications (ensure technical documents made available in the PLM) interact with customers and vendors regarding technical issues 

  • Communicate design related proposals with counterpart team members 

  • Build risk analyses and propose related action plans, DFMEA

  • Review returns and make any technical recommendations concerning form, fit, function or safety

  • Analyze data and proposed customer specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal/modifications

  • Compile reports and documentation to support recommendation and preparation of accurate quotes 

The Profile

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors Degree (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred)

    • 3 + years of relevant experience

Specific Job Skills, Specialized Knowledge or Certifications 

  • Carry out design activities for simple and intermediate projects, or contribute to design activities for complex projects 

  • Work on individual projects as well as provide expertise/input to others projects 

  • Define a method for carrying out development activities and the associated planning 

  • Assist and communicate with the companies departments 

  • Validate the relevance of the request, carry out the activities required for the changes and to get them qualified 

  • Working towards design techniques which can minimize product cost through design and process improvements 

  • Hands on experience in the shop floor related to assembly process 

  • CAD design methods specific to the business 

  • PLM software and tool (Solidworks)
